Linked Accounts: A Common Reason for Amazon Seller Suspension

Amazon maintains a strict policy to ensure fair competition and trust across its marketplace. One of the lesser-known, but increasingly common, reasons for seller account suspension is linked accounts. Many sellers discover their account has been suspended without warning, only to find out that Amazon has associated it with another account in violation of its policies.

What Does “Linked Accounts” Mean?

A “linked account” refers to a situation where Amazon detects that two or more seller accounts are connected, either through shared credentials, IP addresses, bank details, or other identifying information. While some sellers intentionally create multiple accounts to manage different brands or product lines, Amazon’s Seller Code of Conduct requires explicit permission to operate more than one account.

Amazon uses advanced technology and algorithms to detect links between accounts. These links can be triggered by:

  • Logging into multiple accounts using the same device or IP address
  • Using the same business name, address, phone number, or bank account details
  • Sharing tax information or documentation
  • Reusing email addresses or contact info
  • Similar product listings or catalogue overlaps

Even if the second account is inactive, suspended, or was previously closed, it can still affect your current seller account if Amazon detects a link.

Why This Triggers Suspension?

Amazon views the operation of multiple accounts — especially without approval — as an attempt to manipulate performance metrics, bypass account restrictions, or operate deceptively. For example, a seller with a poor-performance account might open a new one to start fresh. Amazon’s linking detection is designed to prevent this kind of behaviour.

If your account is linked to another that was suspended, Amazon may suspend your account pre-emptively under suspicion of being connected to past policy violations. Even if you weren’t actively involved in the other account, Amazon may hold your current operation accountable.

Common Scenarios That Trigger Linked Account Suspensions

  • A family member or employee runs another seller account from the same Wi-Fi connection.
  • A seller opens a second account for a new brand without Amazon’s permission.
  • You purchase a business with an existing seller account that had past issues.

In some cases, sellers may not even realise they’ve triggered a link — which makes the suspension especially frustrating.

Amazon takes linked accounts very seriously. Whether intentional or accidental, any overlap in account information can raise red flags. If you’re managing multiple accounts, it’s essential to seek written approval from Amazon through Seller Support. Similarly, always use separate credentials, devices, and network environments to minimise risk.

This suspension can certainly be fixed, but will take multiple appeals and a detailed plan of action before we can get you selling again. On average it takes 8 appeals and revisions of the plan of action before we get your account reinstated.
